Hi, I'm Kristen.

You might say I'm a bit of a geek. I've been using a computer since I was 18 months old and designing websites since I was 9 years old.

I graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Professional Writing. I specialized in digital design & rhetoric (that’s a fancy way of saying I can not only design websites, but also write web content).

I live in Washington, DC and work remotely as a Web Designer for Columbia University. When I'm not working, I enjoy blogging, roller skating, and spoiling my dog.

Browse through the items in my portfolio and drop me a line if you think we might be able to make cool things together.

Featured Work

Epidemiology 2013 Annual Report

The 2013 annual report was my first huge print design project while working at Columbia University’s Department of Epidemiology. The department’s annual reports provide a yearly picture of the department’s science, training, translation, and organization.

TEDxMonterey Print Materials

I created flyers, programs, and a large hanging sign for the TEDxMonterey event. I created these items using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. I also assisted in the creation of the TEDxMonterey website, social media presences, and slidedeck. Photo courtesy of the talented Ryan Gonzalez.

Beauty Ink

This small graphic was created using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. It exercises my knowledge of effective typography as well as consistent design: the graphic is entirely styled in black and white, using only the color red for emphasis.

Map of Michigan

This map was drawn using Adobe Illustrator. It demonstrates the importance of accuracy when making maps and my ability to use outside resources such as Google Earth and Google Maps.
