so i finally conceded and let derek take me out. he went home to brighton to get his car. then we cruised around campus in his red thunderbird and listened to dashboard confessional and something corporate. he has a hot car, i’ll give him that. he opened all the doors for me and told me, “you don’t pay for anything when we hang out, okay?” i think he’s an okay kid, but i’ve heard a lot of rumors about him, so i’m just playing it safe. anyway – derek and i got ice cream at melting moments and then rented tommy boy because i told him i wanted to laugh. and laugh i did.
nathaniel kept calling/stopping by to check on me and derek commented, “he looks out for you, huh?” nathaniel does look out for me. so does matt, but to a different extent. actually, nathaniel spelled this situation out for me today: “R-E-B-O-U-N-D.” and so maybe he’s right. ever notice how when you’re on the rebound, you go for people who are NOTHING like the person you are trying to get over?
just to clarify, derek has not laid a hand on me. well, i take that back … he has had his arm around me, and that is IT. he has not tried to put any moves whatsoever on me. i’m not suggesting he’s a changed boy or anything, because i honestly don’t know, but it’s not like he’s stopped talking to me because i won’t fool around with him.
so whatever. i’m going to do what i want until something becomes clear to me. why sit around waiting for someone who may not come back? i can let someone (perhaps more than one someone!) treat me like a princess in the meantime. should i call mike? i’ve been thinking about it. i’m afraid i wouldn’t know what to say. matt says, “tell him your feelings.” he already knows how i feel. *sigh* i hate this sometimes.
