to the window (to the WALL!)

what an amazing day/weekend. friday night after rehearsal i went to silver bells in the city with chelsea, cathy, corey ganssley, brittany, katie, todd, ashley post, and some other random alto sax players. the parade was fun; we are dorks and kept checking out all the high school marching bands. then they lit the tree in front of the capitol building with lights and set off fireworks. and here i was thinking they were going to light up THE CAPITOL BUILDING itself. am i an idiot or something? afterwards we went out for drinks at the radisson. cathy, chelsea, todd, and i ended up going back to cathy’s apartment and ordering a pizza and watching part of the matrix reloaded on TV. went home around 10pm and went to sleep.

saturday = gameday. i had an awesome performance. pregame especially, but overall, too. i have mixed feelings about the spartan’s loss to penn state. i would have liked to go to a bowl game, but not a crappy one. i don’t know.

then it was party time. got dressed and headed off to 543 charles st. for a frat guys & sorostitues party hosted by cory & wayne.

i was paying cory for a cup and he did a double take. “whoa, kristen … nice! you know it’s good when i don’t even recognize you at first.” wayne approved of my ensemble also. trevor told me he liked my eyelashes. beene TRIED to tell me that they were glittery, but he couldn’t quite pronounce “glittery”.

ashley and i had to wait 45 minutes to take on marc & his partner matt at beer pong. they won WAY too many games in a row for their own damn good.

i am officially declaring brian glasby the funniest drunk ever. he was running around with a piece of cardboard that said “FRAGILE” wrapped around himself, yelling, “i’m fragile BE CAREFUL!!” it was sooooo funny. then he was dancing to the music they were playing upstairs, and when someone turned it off brian was like, “there’s no more music! but i’m still dancing!” oh and dancing he was. or at least trying to. he came up behind me and was kind of grinding on me, and i thought it was hilarious so i danced right back. then he squealed and yelled, “OH MY GOD YOU BROKE MY PENIS!”

then he put his arm around me and said he wanted to make a deal with me: “you vote for me and i’ll vote for you.”

“…what are you talking about, brian?”

“SQUAD LEADERS TWO THOUSAND ONE!!!”

“um, brian, don’t you mean two thousand six?”

“….aw SHIT is it two thousand five already?!”

around 1:30am, the cops a cop showed up and we were informed that the party was over and to please exit calmly out the front door. i guess some idiot(s) jumped out a window and got arrested? i don’t know the details. so ashley and i are walking down charles street, pants and purses in hand, when someone pulls up alongside us and asks if we want a ride. who should it be but trevor, his brother (eric), his brother’s friend (tyler), and anna! so we accepted the ride and went back to tyler’s place. ashley made herself right at home and ate no less than 8 pieces of toast. trevor and i terrorized a cat. all i know is that the cat was VERY soft (and named grizzly, apparently). then trevor gave me a glass of clear liquid, assuring me it was water, and it was definitely straight VODKA. fucker. oh well. we were both pretty drunk. we called glasby to make sure he got out of the party okay and he told us that he had just finished peeing on olin (HAHAHA).

on a different, less debaucheristic note, i am sad that tomorrow we will wrap up the season. i will turn in all of my uniform components for the second time. i have to give my sweetass hat back…what will i use to decorate my dresser now?! i am relieved that now i can spend more time working and saving up some money (i have two job interviews next week), but also a little sad that once again we did not make it to a bowl game. if it were based on the quality of the band as an ensemble, we’d be going somewhere nice for the holidays. but no, we have to rely on our completely unreliable football team to secure a bowl trip for us.

i think that’s part of the reason i have the desire to march with a drum corps. being in the spartan marching band is bittersweet. i want to perform and know that the crowd is there to see ME. i don’t want my mood after a performance to be influenced by how good or badly our team played. i want to know that i did awesome and not have to worry about how many interceptions drew stanton has thrown.

don’t get me wrong, i love the SMB. this year i opened up so much more and actually HUNG OUT with trumpet & band kids. i was really flattered when anna said she planned to vote for me for squad leader. and the atmosphere of the trumpet section this year was truly amazing compared to last season. i’m also realizing that college is such a short period of time in my life when you look at the big picture. i’m halfway done with my career in the SMB already; how can this be???

“when you join we promise you it won’t last forever.”

and now i am going to draw the shield on our window with the green window paint i bought at joann’s today.
