you were the last good thing about this part of town.

Camp this weekend was bittersweet. Friday seemed too easy. It made me wonder what asskicking awaited us on Saturday.

Saturday morning, I had just finished my breakfast of muffins(!) and froot loops and was gathering up my clothes so I could go to the bathroom and change out of my pajamas. I was the only girl in the gym when I saw Sprunger walk in. He crossed the length of the gym and climbed the stairs to the side of the stage, approaching my sleeping bag.

“Hey,” he said.

“….heyyyy,” I said, still rifling through my bag for my athletic pants, and not sure what Sprunger wanted.

“I’m just letting a few important people know that…well, I’m leaving soon. I’m actually not marching this summer.”

“…what?”

“Yeah.”

“For real? Why?”

“I just have other things I need to take care of.”

I didn’t really know what to say in that moment. I just hugged Sprunger and told him I would miss him. Just like that I lost my seat partner and one of my best friends in the drum corps. And just like that the sopranos are out a section leader and 4-year vet lead player.

This is the strangest incidence of someone walking out of my life.

I am now the only remaining member of the Podâ„¢.

Dennis finally got around to creating some semblance of part assignments. He went down an alphabetical list of all the sopranos’ names and asked what part we were playing. When he got to Mark, Mark replied, “Lead” and Dennis said, “No you’re not. Second or third?”

If Mark thinks he is going to play lead this summer, he is crazy. I will contest him for Sprunger’s lower lead spot.

On Sunday, we were chilling in the horn arc on a 5-minute break and Brian came up to me and said, “Kristen, I’ll be right back. Can you get everyone in the center of the gym for me?” Then he walked out of the gym and I was like….wtf? I didn’t have any qualms with doing this, except that Andy Leister had just arrived at camp that morning and he IS vying for horn sergeant. I don’t like stepping on toes, really, but I did what Brian asked. After we brought it in, we had a meeting with Brian regarding the 2007 DCI rules proposals, and he asked me for my opinion on nearly every single one. I think this probably stems from the fact that when I submitted my feedback on the proposals to him, I wrote a paragraph containing my opinion on each proposal. Maybe he thinks I am an overachiever now.

I had an advising appointment with Danielle yesterday and things went better than expected. I am going to get my dual PW track specialization afterall! Editing & Publishing as well as Digital Design & Rhetoric. Exciting. I am also done with all but 2 required PW courses (WRA 260 & WRA 455), both of which I am taking next spring. So in the fall I get to take pretty much anything I want! So far I have the following classes:

ITL 101 – Elementary Italian
FRN 330 – French Phonetics
JRN 438 – Online Publishing
MUS 114 – Marching Band

I still need one more 3 credit class for the fall! Suggestions welcome. Maybe STA 360 (Graphic Design)?

Danielle also had a great suggestion for the summer that I don’t want to delve into too much just yet. Let’s just say I may be earning 3 credits AND marching drum corps this summer…

I am checking out USC’s Professional Writing graduate program while Corner and I are in California for spring break.

I got a 98.5 on my first IAH midterm. And it’s an Honors class. Boo-yah.

Summer thing sounds intreguing…

And it might be ok that Brian thinks you’re an overachiever because you kind of are. ;)

You have fun with 260. It was a blast. Let me tell you. [/sarcasm]

That’s funny we’re both looking for another class. I’m taking that other JRN class (can’t remember, but it’s in my entry) to replace 415. But I was looking at the STA graphic design course, too.

Anyway, good luck!

lets just say you should never offer a minor a sip of your drink at a place where hidden security guards run rampant
