What a fantastic weekend in Michigan!
Mom and Kathy picked Corner and me up from the airport when our flight arrived at 1:40am on Friday. We drove home from the Detroit airport and the 4 of us went to bed around 3am.
Friday we went to the bike shop on Leroy St. and I bought a pair of Pearl Izumi road bike shoes (to go with my new bike that I am getting TONIGHT!). It’s a Trek 5500 Dura Ace, completely carbon fiber. Very light, very fast, very cool. I can’t wait to go riding with Corner on the bike trail that runs for 17 miles along the ocean.
Friday evening we went over to Grandma & Bill’s for the “practice” Thanksgiving dinner. Dave was there with his girls so Corner finally got to meet Rebecca and Melissa (who look like they are going through a bit of an emo phase).
Saturday morning was Boom & Steve’s wedding. Whose idea was it to let 30+ tubas sit near each other in a church?! Then we went to the reception for a couple hours before heading to East Lansing. We caught the 8pm performance of Spartan Spectacular with Chelsea, Ali, Cathy, and Eric. So weird to be watching the band instead of playing in it, but I’m slowly coming to terms with the fact that I am a Spartan Marching Band alum and not a current member.
After Spartan Spec, we headed back to John & Matt’s apartment on Beech St. and enjoyed a pleasant evening with many good friends (Kathy, Kyle, Matt, John, Chelsea, Ali, Cathy, Eric, Heather, Jessica, Emma, Kristen, et al.). Matt Michalski couldn’t make it due to bad weather but hopefully Corner and I will have another opportunity to see him relatively soon. Lots of Bacardi O, Big Ten Burrito, and good conversations were had.
Dear everyone: please move to California so that I can have friends again. Kthnx.
Sunday morning after we woke up, Corner and I went to Omi (with Kathy, who didn’t eat anything there…obviously). We grabbed a quick bite to eat and were off to Tuba Thanksgiving where we socialized for a bit…then Dad picked us up from the crowded apartment and we hung out with Dad and Kathy for a bit. We ate dinner at Old Chicago…then Dad & Robin presented Corner and me with several gifts for our new [rental] house: a toaster, a blender, and two sets of sheets for our California King bed.
Monday was spent hanging out with Grandma and Bill, who took us to the UPS Store where Les helped us ship a bunch of boxes back to our new California home. Then we ate lunch at Grandma & Bill’s and they drove Corner and me to the airport for our flight back to Oakland.
I’m really hoping MSU goes to the Rose Bowl so that I can go to the game without paying a lot of money (though I have a feeling I might end up at the bowl game no matter which one MSU goes to).
On a final note, the Professional Writing program at MSU put on an event called “Write Here, Write Now” and the class who put it together did a lot of research about former PW alums, where they are now, and what they are doing. Find my dot on their alumni map! Also note that I am 1 of the 2 PW alums they mention who specialized in dual tracks.
Life is great. I’ve got a fun job, a cute house, an adoring boyfriend, and an adorable dog. What more do you need (besides money to pay off student loans, of course)?

gah, i hate you! because you got to eat omi. i haven’t been there in a couple of months. it is my favorite sushi place of all time. hopefully i can make a trip out to e.l. soon
You finally got a bike!?!? How exciting! And I bet you are going to wear no helmet, flip flops, and short shorts when you ride, too! ;p
I’m glad to hear everything is going great in Cali, and I would LOVE to move out there and keep you company!
p.s. It looks like you will have to go further than the Rose Bowl. :(
It’s a bicycle, actually ;) But a nice one! We are living about 3.5 miles from my place of employment, so I plan to ride to work every day. You can bet I won’t be wearing flip flops and shorts, though (we went out for the inaugural ride yesterday and I fell once and somehow avoided road rash). And I will definitely have a helmet.
Hurry up and graduate so you can get a cool medical technology job here in Cali!
