The job search is definitely easier the second time around

My time here in New York has been such a whirlwind so far, there’s been hardly any time to blog! I just wanted to report that I started a new job on Thursday, December 9. I am working at Sposta, a small creative agency that works with a bunch of NYC-based publishing companies (think Conde Nast, Hearst, etc.). So far I have designed a few one-off sites and ads promoting various sweepstakes that are running this month and next.

Damn, that was kinda fast, huh? I’m pretty relieved, but let me assure you that there was very little “luck” involved in my job search. I update my resume and digital portfolio pretty regularly, so there was very little polishing to be done there. I sent out 60+ resumes for NYC jobs and ended up with a slew of onsite interviews with non-profits, higher education institutions, and creative agencies. This involved several days full of trekking around a not-yet-familiar city wearing heels and getting on all of the wrong trains. It definitely all paid off in the end.

Tomorrow, Corner and I are making the 11-hour drive to Michigan to spend Christmas with my family. This will be our fifth Christmas together and somehow Corner has yet to experience a Byers family Christmas. I’m sure much hilarity will ensue.

Corner has also mandated that we stuff stocking for each other since my family does not do stockings. I found a bunch of cool stuff for his…hope he likes it!

In addition to all of the family fun, there is an MSUPW holiday-style reunion happening while I am in the mitten. It feels like I haven’t visited East Lansing in forever!

We will also be retrieving Nigel from my mom’s house and bringing him back to New York with us…I can’t wait to see him!

And to close, a photo of our first snow in the city:
