JRN 438 Portfolio
Set of class projects compiled for JRN 438: Online Publishing (fall 2007). Displays all of my projects created for class, including the midterm and final projects (both of which had to be created within a 2-hour timeframe). Also includes a link to an issue site I created to educate students about the pros and cons of off-campus housing in East Lansing, Michigan.

Glassmen 2007 Photo Journal
Coded for WRA 490: Independent Study (summer 2007). Showcases over 1,600 digital photographs from the Glassmen's 2007 summer tour. Documents the corps' progress during their coast-to-coast tour beginning in Annapolis, Maryland, and ending in Pasadena, California. Features the corps' colors (black and gold) and utilizes a customized template and color scheme. Created using Coppermine Photo Gallery.

Circus: Kresge Art Museum Exhibit
Created for the Kresge Art Museum (May 2007). Displays 5 photographs from the Circus: The Art of the "Strange & Curious" exhibit featuring huge historic sideshow banners. Includes the dates of important events associated withthe exhibit. Features a purple, gold, red, and green color scheme and Circus-style fonts. Demonstrates my ability to implement Javascript through the use of Lightbox, a Javascript utility for displaying photographs.

Sorrow Unmasked: Kresge Art Museum Exhibit
Created for the Kresge Art Museum (May 2007). Displays 3 photographs from the Sorrow Unmasked exhibit featuring images of grief, mourning, and remembrance. Includes the dates of important events regarding the exhibit. Features a black, pale yellow, and lavender color scheme and several somber fonts. Also uses thickbox, a Javascript utility for displaying photographs.

Working America: Kresge Art Museum Exhibit
Created as my first individual gallery page for the Kresge Art Museum (February 2007). Displays 3 photographs from the Working America exhibit containing photographs provided by the Ewing Galloway Agency. Includes the dates of important events regarding the exhibit. Features a grey, black, and red color scheme representative of the working life. Also uses lightbox, a Javascript utility.

Theta Delta Chi @ Michigan State University
Created as a final project for WRA 410: Advanced Web Authoring (spring 2006). Redesign of the Michigan State Gamma Triton chapter of the fraternity Theta Delta Chi. Features masculine gold, blue, and grey color scheme. Utilizes external cascading stylesheets, images crafted using Adobe Photoshop, and a PHP forum. Includes profiles of the current TDX brothers, prospective rush information, a calendar of social events, and contact information.

WRA 410 Portfolio
Set of projects compiled for WRA 410: Advanced Web Authoring (spring 2006). Includes exercises dealing with blogs, Content Management Systems, Flash, Javascript, PHP, and mySQL. Also documents my progress for the creation of my final project: the website for MSU's chapter of Theta Delta Chi.

Spartan Marching Band Feature
Created as my final project for JRN 336: Publication Design I (spring 2007) Documents the history and traditions of the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band in a 4-page newspaper feature-style spread. Utilizes watermarks and a variety of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign techniques.


The Gullah-Geechee

Created for JRN 336: Publication Design I (spring 2007) using Adobe InDesign CS2. Showcases my knowledge of front page layout as well as placement for infographics and teasers. Exhibits creative use of colors and typography.

Boot Camp for the Blind: Learning to Live Unassisted
Created for JRN 336: Publication Design I (spring 2007) using Adobe InDesign CS2. Displays a 6-column news story with a color photograph and horizontal layout. Follows guidelines that were given including font face, font size, leading, indent size, and margins. Contains no orphaned words or sentences.

Airbag Safety Handout
Written and designed for WRA 320: Technical Writing (fall 2006). Uses technical writing to discuss airbag safety and the possibility of readers installing an airbag on-off switch in their vehicle. Includes five tips to reduce airbag injury and a list of resources to find additional information regarding airbags. This handout uses a blue color scheme and the font WillRobinson.

Cha Cha Slide
Created for WRA 360: Visual Design & Rhetoric (spring 2006). Displays document design principles as applied to a poem (written by me) entitled "Cha Cha Slide." Utilizes elegant, handwritten, and dingbat fonts and the only color (besides black) is blue. Includes an explanation of my design decisions including font choice, use of color, whitespace, and watermarks. Explains how the document's design decisions help illustrate the intended meaning behind the poem.
